How 340B Affects You
Safety Net Serves You
If you get your healthcare from a 340B safety net hospital, clinic, or center – or if people in your community rely on these providers for their health care – you are getting a direct benefit of the 340B program.
The 340B program is targeted to assist “safety net providers” – health care providers like hospitals, clinics, and centers that organize and deliver a significant level of health care and other needed services to uninsured, Medicaid, and other vulnerable patients.
Hospitals, clinics, and centers all use their savings in a variety of ways – to reduce the cost of medications for patients, to ensure they have the staff to serve you, to build wellness programs and other services needed in your community.
The 340B program is NOT funded by taxpayers but by manufacturers through discounts on the cost of their drugs.
Threats to 340B = Threats to Communities
Drug Companies are illegally refusing to give 340B discounts to safety net providers who send prescriptions to pharmacies outside the clinic.
This is a problem because many clinics who do not have in-house pharmacies are no longer able to use the savings, they get from the 340B discounts to serve their communities.
Without these savings, hospitals, clinics, and centers may be forced to lay off staff, stop offering free or discounted prescriptions drugs, or end community programs like free dental clinics and diabetes care groups, ultimately making your community less healthy.
